In collaboration with Dutch development organization SNV, AAC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $55,000 to design and implement a corporate governance toolkit for SGB’s in East Africa.
AAC and SNV agree that corporate governance is an issue of critical importance for the development of the SGB sector in the region.

There is widespread international evidence that better governed companies have less problems of mismanagement, act on and recover from shocks more quickly, and thus can achieve faster and more reliable growth. In addition, corporate governance also plays a key role in determining a SGB’s ability to attract investment.

It is this in mind that both organizations decided to develop a user-friendly and practical Corporate Governance Toolkit for Small and Growing Businesses in East Africa with localized materials, which include:

  • Why corporate governance matters
  • Legal and socio-economic issues in East African countries
  • Best practices from the region
  • Self assessment tool
  • Practical guidelines & case studies for implementation

The unique and applicability aspect of the toolkit will be its relevane to SGB’s in this region. AAC and SNV will utilize existing material and their respective professional experiences to develop a customized toolkit.
