Investment Portfolio - Uganda
Bee Natural Uganda

Bee Natural Uganda Limited is a honey business located in Arua in North-West Uganda. It collects honey from farmers groups and associations across the West Nile region before processing, packaging and selling it across the East African market. With excellent processing machinery and location in the Ugandan bee corridor, the company produces honey at a quality comparable with international standards.

Our investment has helped the company to purchase a processing plant and provision of working capital. To this end, the business is will provide employment and a market for farmers in a deprived part of the country recovering from years of war.

The business expects to buy honey from approximately 1000 farmers in 2008 and 2000 farmers in 2009. The improved hives and bee colonies, together with training, provided by the company allow farmers to increase their yield between 3 and 5 fold, with minimal extra work. These increased yields could increase each small farmer's honey related income from $26 per year to well over $100.
